Beautiful Paintings
When summer came, we began to venture into the ocean more. I cannot adequately express the sheer joy and delight of this. To see the brightly coloured fish, big and small, the occupied shells, the crabs, the forests of seaweed gently swaying in the current, the schools of a thousand whiting swirling together, is just heavenly. It gives me a feeling of freedom. If I can relax enough (which takes a little time!), I experience being part of the vast body of ocean, learning cautious trust, whilst being aware of its immense power. That balance, once again, present through so many activities, of "holding on, and letting go" at the same time.
The highlight of the summer was seeing a Wobbegong shark swimming elegantly beneath me, in between the rocks and the seaweed. Its beautiful dappled skin was breathtaking … I spluttered in excitement to my swimming buddies "oh my god, it's exquisite!" A whole world has opened up to me and with a mixture of childlike delight and utter terror I continue to explore it even now as winter is here and the wetsuit is out of the cupboard.
It won't be long before I stat to paint what I see beneath the surface, though m quite enjoying the study of waves and rock from the relative safety on the edge of the ocean, contemplating the ancientness of it all.
